Juilliard alumna and Carnegie Hall Perspectives artist Marin Alsop conducts the world premiere of Joan Tower’s Fast Ride in a Short Machine, a Juilliard commission performed by the Juilliard Orchestra, on a program with works by Barber, Copland, and Still, plus music from Bernstein’s only original film score, On the Waterfront. Directed by Juilliard faculty and opera director Stephen Wadsworth, the sweeping program illuminates the creativity and resilience of American artists, with new works of spoken text by Jamie Bernstein and former US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, and an original dance by Arnhold Creative Associate Caili Quan.
